Eastbourne's Mayor Cll. Carolyn Heaps with Nigel  during the second sitting of her portrait being filmed by ITV Meridian.

Nigel Greaves was elected a fellow of The Royal Society of Arts in 1994 and took early retirement as the Advertisement Director of the Eastbourne Gazette and Herald early in 2008 after 42 years service. His life's work in dealing with such a diverse range of businesses almost certainly accounts for his well known ability to create so many different subjects using so many different mediums.

Nigel studied fine art, art history, ceramics and graphic design  at Eastbourne College of Art and Design from 1963-1966. He was fortunate to study under Robert Tavenor and Bob Miller.

In his early years at art college he had little choice but to study the masters. Time and experience gradually led him to a world of new ideas with a fresh approach to the scientific  use and chemestry of mixing colour from quality pigments in order to seek creativity that could be treasured.

Over the past 40 years Nigel has gained confidence in his art, working with equal ease in acrylic, watercolour and oils. Many individuals and institutions have discovered the quality of his works which are now being enjoyed in private and public collections in the United Kingdom, Egypt, Canada, USA,  Australia, Sweden, Croatia, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and Brazil.

From the very first glance at his works, there is an impression of extraordinary vitality radiating energy. In scenes unveiled from beyond our dreams, Nigel takes us to compositions rich in spirituality. His generous use of colour and a well known understanding of light can be seen to bathe scenes in a tranquil unreality that we would sometimes wish to be real.

Nigel Greaves is one of our rare contemporary artists who has the ability of expression to deal with the widest range of subjects using a varied range of techniques in a wide range of media. Collectors can rest assured that the work they purchase is a certified original and that the work they subsequently own is not part of a commercial print run. The work will therefore always be original.
